More temple towns find the place in the third list of Smart Cities announced by the Government of India. Sacred places like Tirupati, Varanasi, Nashik, Madurai, Ujjain, Amritsar, Agra, Thanjavur, Ajmer, Aurangabad etc have secured place in the smart cities list. These cities will be developed with special grants and funds from the Central Government. Following is the list of 27 smart cities selected in the third phase.

11) Nashik – Maharashtra

13) Kanpur – Uttar Pradesh
14) Madurai – Tamil Nadu
15) Tumakuru – Karnataka
16) Kota – Rajasthan
17) Thanjavur – Tamil Nadu
18) Namchi – Sikkim
19) Jalandhar – Punjab
20) Shivamogga – Karnataka
21) Salem – Tamil Nadu

There is no place for any city from Telangana state. Karimnagar, instead of Hyderabad is expected to find the place in next list of smart cities. With these 27, a total of 60 cities were selected under the Smart Cities Mission by Government of India.
