Vangmayi Parakala is the daughter of Nirmala Sitaraman and Parakala Prabhakar. Nirmala Sitharaman is presently serving as minister of defence in Government of India. Parakala Prabhakar is ex-media adviser of Chandrababu Naidu, CM of Andhra Pradesh. Vangmayi Parakala has completed her school education in Hyderabad. She has studied her master’s in Journalism at Medill School, Northwestern University, USA. After masters in English literature, she worked in the media for some time. She is now working as a print and visual journalist.

Parakala Prabhakar is from Narsapuram of Andhra Pradesh. He and Nirmala Sitharaman were studied at JNU, New Delhi and later married in 1986. Nirmala is from Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
