Aadhaar in Tripura – UID Number Linked for Pension Scheme

For the first time in India, The Government of Tripura has linked Aadhaar Cards to distribute pension for elderly people. The senior citizens of Tripura now require Aadhaar Cards to avail their pensions. Tripura Gramin Bank has set a record by implementing this and being the first regional bank in the country to provide Aadhaar based pension services.

The Tripura Gramin Bank has used Aadhaar UID Numbers on Friday to distribute pensions. The cards were used by 194 residents of the northeastern region of Tripura to access pensions. Tripura has set the record by enrolling 90 percent of its population into Aadhaar scheme.

Tripura Gramin Bank (TGB) is the first regional bank in India to offer Aadhaar services. This has been considered as mark of a new system of delivering banking services, including pensions to the people. The Govt .of India has already announced that the Aadhaar could be used to distribute pensions, wages and scholarships in 50 districts across the country.

Of the 50 districts announced by the Govt. of India, four are in Tripura and two in Sikkim. Aadhaar UID scheme was first introduced in Jharkhand last year. It is estimated that about 200 million people enrolled for Aadhaar and the Government aims at enrolling another 400 million in the coming one and half year.
