The RTA (Road Transport Authority) of Government of Telangana has made Aadhaar cards mandatory for vehicle registrations in Telangana. Aadhaar is also must for the transfer of ownership of the vehicle in case of sale or purchase of old vehicles.
With the latest decision, the RTA has made Aadhaar an essential and compulsory document for all the services of RTA department. You can sell your vehicle also if you do not have Aadhaar number now.
The new rule is applicable for all category of vehicles, be it new, second hand or third hand with effect from August 22, 2017. You have to provide aadhaar number to book slots online for RTA services.
Apart from Aadhaar number, you need to provide your latest and working mobile number to the RTA department. A one time password (OTP) will be sent to the mobile phone while booking slot online for RTA services.
Earlier, the RTA department has informed that the Aadhaar number was optional for the registration of new vehicles. The officials at RTA offices did not insist on Aadhaar for those registering used vehicles. The decision aimed at creating database of all vehicles including old and new owners.
