Akkineni Nageswara Rao, legendary Telugu actor and Dada Saheb Phalke award winner dies at Hyderabad on 22nd January 2014. ANR, as he is popularly known as is an actor, producer, and stage artiste. Dharma Patni is his first film and Manam is the last movie. He acted with his son Nagarjuna and grandsons Akhil and Naga Chaitanay in Manam movie. He passed away due to cancer. Akkineni was born in Ramapuram of Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh. His parents were from farming community. He had primary formal education. Ghantasala Balaramaiah is his god father and gave him first chance as a friend of hero in Dharma Patni movie.
Some of the popular movies of ANR are Balaraju, Keelu Gurram, Laila Majnu, Devadasu, Vipranarayana, Missamma, Rojulu Marai, Anarkali, Santaanam, Mayabazar, Suvarna Sundari, Mangalya balam, Pellinati Pramanalu, Santinivasam, Batasari, Poola Rangadu, Mooga Manasulu, Dr. Chakravarthi, Dasara Bullodu, Bangaru Babu, Premabhishekam, Anubandham, Sutradharulu, Seetaramaiah Gaari Manavaraalu, Sri Ramadadu, Sri Rama Rajyam etc.
ANR received PAdma Sri in 1964. He also received prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award in 1991. He created an award on his own name as ANR national award. This is given to artists like Dev Anand, Shabana Azmi, Anjali Devi, Balachandar, Hemamalini etc.
Today 22.01.2014 is the saddest day for Telugu film fraternity and movie goers all over the world. ANR is not confined to Andhra Pradesh as an actor. He is unique and unparalleled in the World Film Industry. His qualities as an actor particularly the depth of communication in melancholous scenes can never be substituted. He has down to earth qualities and pragmatic in living. His departure has thrown everybody irrespective of age groups in to deep depression.
