For years, Nara Lokesh was frequently portrayed by political opponents as an inexperienced heir to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), with the derisive “Pappu” tag becoming a shorthand for that image. Today, that narrative has undergone a noticeable shift.

Lokesh’s political journey has been marked by setbacks as well as reinvention. His defeat in the 2019 Assembly elections forced a period of political reassessment, followed by a more visible presence on the ground and a stronger focus on party organisation.

The decisive change came with the 2024 Assembly elections, when Lokesh won from Mangalagiri as the TDP-led alliance returned to power in Andhra Pradesh. His subsequent elevation to important ministerial responsibilities further strengthened his position within both the government and the party.

With portfolios spanning IT and Electronics, Real-Time Governance and Human Resources Development, Lokesh has increasingly sought to build an image centred on technology, investment, employment and administrative delivery.

His political communication, organisational outreach and public engagements have also become more assertive. The emphasis is no longer simply on being N. Chandrababu Naidu’s son, but on establishing an independent political identity within the TDP.

The transformation, however, remains a work in progress. Lokesh’s long-term political stature will ultimately be shaped by his administrative record, electoral performance and ability to consolidate support within the party.

From being a convenient target for political ridicule to becoming a prominent figure in the Andhra Pradesh government, Nara Lokesh’s journey reflects a significant makeover in both political role and public perception.
