The election commission of India has come out with an idea of setting up a control room for allegations on EVM tampering and swapping. An EVM control room with number 011 – 23052123 has been set up at Election Commission office in New Delhi. This is active from 22nd May 2019.
The election commission will consider the complaints received by the control room and handle the complaints till the end of counting on 23 May 2019.
There are instances of allegations and complaints by opposition parties over tampering and swapping of EVMs by ruling party supporters. 22 opposition parties have met EC in the capital and petitioned for the safety of EVMs.
The EVM related issues have also cropped up in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, etc. Moving of unused EVMs and VVPATs out of strong rooms has raised questions on the safety of used EVMs in strong rooms.
On the other hand, election commission has denied all the allegations of tampering and swapping of EVMs. It has ensured that before the counting process begins, agents are shown the address tags, seals and serial numbers of EVMs to confirm that the EVMs were used in the polls.
