The Election Commission of India (EC) has come up with a new idea to track the contesting candidates in elections. Apart from knowing their polling stations through SMS, voters can now inform the EC through SMS about the election code violations by the candidates. The EC has introduced a facility for voters in Andhra Pradesh to know their respective polling stations in the seven Assembly constituencies where by-election will be held on March 18, 2012. The EC may extend the service to general elections later.
How to know you polling station: Voters can now know their polling station by utilising the SMS facility. They can send SMS to mobile number 8978973452 typing EPIC followed by space and EPIC No (voter identification card number) to know the polling station. They can go to that station and can exercise their franchise. Election Commission has also made arrangements to register complaints about violation of Model Code of Conduct by political parties or candidates and others.
Voters in the seven Assembly constituencies can send their complaints regarding violation of the Code of Conduct through SMS. They can just mention the place where such incidents take place along with the district name. The complaints in the form of SMS should be sent to 7382621251, 7382621252, 7382621253, 7382621254 and 7382621255. The EC shall keep the identity of the senders confidential.
