The Government of India has announced 20 Smart Cities to be developed with central funds in the first phase. The Government has decided to develop 98 cities as Smart Cities in the coming 5 years. The following are 20 cities announced in the first phase of the scheme. The Government has selected Visakhapatnam and Kakinada in the first list under Smart Cities scheme. No city has been selected from Telangana state. Following is the list:

3) Jaipur, Rajasthan
4) Surat, Gujarat
5) Kochi, Kerala
6) Ahmedabad, Gujarat
7) Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh
8) Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh
9) Solapur, Maharashtra
10) Davangere, Karnataka
11) Indore, Madhya Pradesh
12) New Delhi Municipal Corporation
13) Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu
14) Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh
15) Belagavi, Karnataka
16) Udaipur, Rajasthan
17) Guwahati, Assam
18) Chennai, Tamil Nadu
19) Ludhiana, Punjab
20) Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh
The Smart Cities will be developed with overall infrastructure, sustainable real estate, communications and market viability. The cities will be selected from various segments like tourism, industry, capitals, education and business hubs etc. The Central Government will announced 40 and 38 smart cities respectively in the coming two years.
