The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council was revived to function in 2007 after 22 years of its abolition by N.T. Rama Rao in 1985. There has been so much discussion at the time of its abolition and also at the time its reinforce during Y.S. Raja Sekhar Reddy’s period. N.T. Rama Rao abolished the council claiming its redundancy in democracy and burden on the state exchequer. The revival of the Council was criticised by the TDP as it was intended to co-opt and accommodate leaders of the Congress Party.
