Indian Railways has announced new medical and health cards scheme for Railway employees and retired employees across the country. The existing medical cards will be replaces with a credit card like health cards mentioning unique all India number. Following are more details of the announcement by Indian Railways.
Separate Medical ID Cards:
Presently, zonal railways are issuing medical cards to all the employees and pensioners in the form of booklets which looks like ration cards. As per the latest announcement, a separate medical ID card with unique all India number will be issued to employees, their dependents and pensioners.
New Plastic Cards:
Proposed new Medical ID cards will be a plastic-based card. The size of the new card will be similar to that of debit / credit cards issued by banks. Apart from that, there will be coloured strip on top of each ID card. The category of the employee will be identified with the help of the strip.
For 5 years validity:
There are various categories of employees in Railways like serving, retired employees or dependents. New cards for beneficiaries up to the age of 15 years will be issued with a validity of 5 years initially and they will be renewed afterwards.
13 Lakhs Beneficiaries:
The medical and health scheme beneficiaries above the age of 15 years will be issued new cards. These cards will be renewed once the the beneficiary turn 40 years. The cards will be again renewed when the employees retire. About 13 lakhs and around same number of pensioners will benefit from the medical scheme of Indian Railways.
