The Government of Telangana is proposed to issue new ration cards to all the eligible households in the state. The new ration cards are likely to be issued to all families by the end of April 2018. The Government has informed that they have received over 2.5 lakh applications for the issue of ration cards. Out of these, about 75,000 application were already considered by the Government.
The Government has denied the news on the cancellation of white ration cards on various grounds. About 85 lakh families are availing Re 1 a kg rice scheme through the white cards in Telangana State.
Telangana State Government had raised the income ceiling from Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh per annum in rural areas and Rs 70,000 to Rs 2 lakhs in urban areas to include more families in subsidised rice scheme.
The Government has also introduced portability of the ration cards thus enabling families to get their ration quota of rice and other essential commodities from fair price shops of their choice if they migrate from a village to a town or vice versa. The Government has also ordered for the printing of new ration cards.
