The Government of India has announced the names to cities to be developed as SMART Cities and AMRUT cities in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states. The Central Government has selected 2 cities from Telangana and 3 from Andhra Pradesh under SMART cities. Under AMRUT scheme, 15 towns / cities from Telangana and 31 from AP are selected. Following are the details of towns and cities under smart cities and AMRUT scheme.
Smart cities in AP: Visakhapatnam is already announced. AP Government has to propose other two cities.
Smart cities in Telangana: Warangal is likely to be in the list along with Hyderabad / some other city as proposed by Telangana Government.
AMRUT towns in AP: Greater Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Nellore, Kurnool, Rajahmundry, Tirupati, Kakinada, Kadapa, Anantapur, Vizianagaram, Eluru, Proddutur, Nandyal, Ongole, Adoni, Madanapalli, Chittoor, Machilipatnam, Tenali, Chirala, Hindupuram, Srikakulam, Bhimavaram, Dharmavaram, Guntakal, Gudivada, Narsaraopet, Tadipatri, Tadepalligudem, Chilakaluripet.
AMRUT towns in Telangana: Hyderabad, Warangal, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Ramagundam, Mahaboobnagar, Manchiryal, Nalgonda, Adilabad, Kothagudem, Siddipet, Suryapet, Miryalagudem, Jagtial.
The Government of India will develop these cities / towns with special focus and funds. At the all India level, 100 smart cities and 500 AMRUT cities will be developed.
