Bonalu is a festival celebrated in Hyderabad, Secunderabad and several parts of Telangana and Rayalaseema. Bonalu is offered to Goddess Mahankali for the fulfillment of vows. Bonam is nothing but Bhojanaalu in Telugu. Here we are giving some photographs of Bonalu festival in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

The history of Bonalu can be traced back to 1813. The Plague had claimed thousands of lives in the region in that year and people believed that the plague was the outcome of anger of goddess Mahankali. Hence they offered Bonalu to the Goddess.
