Karimnagar district has been very active in the state politics of Andhra Pradesh. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has good base in the district. The 2009 Assembly elections yielded mixed results for main parties like TDP, TRS and the Congress. The TRS has the largest number of Assembly seats from Karimnagar district. Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency has been loyal to TRS president K. Chanda Sekhar Rao till 2009 elections. He has changed his bastion to Mahaboobnagar in 2009. In the recent by elections (2010), TRS has gained a seat from the TDP as later’s MLA from Vemulavada Assembly Constituency shifted his loyalty towards TRS and relected on the symbol of Car. PRP has failed in gaining any seat from the district.
Karimnagar district is the core district of the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. Karimnagar town is the capital of the district. The district is bounded by Adilabad District (North), Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh states (on the Northeast), Warangal District (South), Medak District (South West) and Nizamabad District (One the west).
Karimnagar is comparatively developed district in the region. The largest town in the Karimnagar district is the industrial town of Ramagundam. District as a whole and towns such as Siricilla are known for the concentration of community of weavers. Manthani is another important town in the district.
