Profile of Allagadda Constituency – Bhuma Sobha Nagireddy

It is always dominance of individuals over parties in Allagadda Assembly Constituency. The Bhuma family has strong hold on the constituency for a long time. They managed to won elections from this constituencies on the ticket of most of the leading political parties. Bhuma Sobha Nagireddy has resigned to this seat on the grounds of her loyalty to YSR Congress Party. She was elected from Allagadda Constituency in 2009 elections on the ticket of erstwhile PRP (Praja Rajyam Party). She served as MLA of AP Assembly for three terms and also as first women chairperson of APSRTC.

Allagadda is an important constituency in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. The family of SV Subba Reddy consisting of Bhuma Nagireddy (son in law) and Sobha Nagi Reddy (daughter of SV Subba Reddy) have strong presence in the region. SV Subba Reddy won the seat in 1972 and 1983 elections. He was in TDP for a long time and occupied important positions. Bhuma Nagi Reddy has represented the constituency for three terms consecutively from 1992 to 1997 on behalf of the TDP. Sobha Nagi Reddy also won the seat in 1999 elections on TDP symbol and again in 2009 elections from PRP. She was defeated by Gangula Pratap Reddy of the Congress Party in 2004 elections.

The bye elections to the Allagadda Constituency may once again test the dominance of Bhuma family. The Congress party has decided to field Gangula Pratap Reddy. It appears that Pratap Reddy has expressed his reluctance to contest this time. The Congress and TDP are yet to officially announce the candidate. The TDP is likely to field Irigala Ram Pulla Reddy from Allagadda Constituency.
