Profile and Political Life of Margaret Alva

NCP Chief Sharad Pawar has announced the opposition candidate for Vice President. Pawar said at the media platform that Margaret Alva, the former woman governor of Karnataka, has been fielded as the vice-presidential candidate. Meanwhile, Margaret Alva served as the Governor of Goa, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Uttarakhand. She also worked as a Union Minister on behalf of the Congress Party. Meanwhile, it is known that Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar has been fielded as the vice presidential candidate on behalf of NDA.

Margaret Alva – Opposition Candidate for Vice President

Margaret Alva was born on April 14, 1942 in Mangalore, Karnataka. He entered the political arena in 1969. She served as Joint Secretary of All India Congress Committee between 1975 and 1977 and General Secretary of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee between 1978 and 1980. Between 1984-85 he served as Union Minister for various departments.

Later, in 1999, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Uttara Kannada constituency. He contested the elections in 2004 and 2009 but lost. At that time he worked as the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee. In April 1974, Margaret Alva was elected to the Rajya Sabha as a Congress representative. After that he was re-elected in 1980, 1986 and 1992. During his tenure in the Rajya Sabha, he served in several standing committees.
