Ramagundam Assembly Constituency Profile – Telangana Elections

Ramagundam Assembly Constituency has been carved out by merging old Medaram segment. It is under Peddapalli Lok Sabha Constituency. In United Andhra Pradesh, Ramagundam was a stronghold of TDP. In the past five years, TRS has emerged as a strong force in Ramagundam Constituency.

2018 and 2014 Assembly Elections:

In 2014 elections, TRS candidate Somarapu Satyanarayana has won from Ramagundam Constituency. He has defeated Korukanti Chander of Forward Block party with a margin of 2295 votes. Total voter turnout in that election is 65.58 percent. Congress and BJP candidates stood in third and fourth places in 2014 elections.

For 2018 Assembly elections in Telangana, Somarapu Satyanarayana has got TRS ticket to contest from Ramagundam. Ramagundam is known for central industries like Coal Mines, NTPC, Ramagundam Fertilizers etc. Trade Union activity is also strong in the constituency.

Voters:

According to 2011 Census, Ramagundam has a population of 2.84 lakhs. Male and female population is almost same in number. The segment has 1.91 lakh voters and female voters are more in the constituency.

Infighting in TRS:

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is struggling with internal factionalism in Ramagundam Constituency. Recently Somarapu Satyanarayan has resigned to the party due to internal politics and later pacified by the top leadership.
