Here comes another twist in the tale of capital city for the new state of Andhra Pradesh. It is reported in the media that the Sivaraman Krishan Committee has zeroed in on three areas as contenders for the Capital City of the coastal state.
Apart from Guntur – Vijayawada stretch and Visakhapatnam, the committee has come up with a new area at Yerpadu – Renigunta – Tirupati zone as a choice for capital city of Andhra Pradesh. Availability of large chunks of government lands is the main reason for the proposal.
The airport at Renigunta and proposed ITIR project near the airport will be an added reasons for considering this area as new potential region for the development of capital city. The establishment of new educational institutions also made the committee to include it in the list.
The Sivarama Krishnan Committee seems to have reservations on the Guntur – Vijayawada area as the prices of the lands have sky rocketed due to real estate activity. The proposal to establish a capital in chittoor district may also satisfy the Rayalaseema.
