G. Vinod is a former Minister in the cabinet of YS Rajasekhar Reddy. He held the portfolio of Labour and Employment and Hand looms and Textiles. He represented Chennur Assembly Constituency in Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh during 2004 – 2009. He contested from the same constituency in 2009 Assembly elections and defeated by TRS candidate, Nallala Odelu. G. Vinod is also President of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA).
Vinod is a son of senior Congress leader and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member, G. Venkata Swamy. Venkata Swamy also served as central minister and occupied several important positions in the Congress Party. Peddapalli MP, G. Vivekanand is another son of G. Venkata Swamy.
